Cedric Lee, Zimmer Raz Caught by the NBI

April 27, 2014
Cedric Lee and Simeon “Zimmer” Raz have finally been arrested and are now in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). They were arrested in Eastern Samar on Saturday and were brought back to Manila early Sunday.

Escorted by NBI agents, the two arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport via Philippine Airlines PR 2982.

According to reports the two suspects in the mauling of Vhong Navarro were handcuffed during the flight.

There were reports that Lee and Raz tried to escape the NBI but in an interview with ABS-CBN news team during the flight Lee denied such a thing. He said that he and Raz surrendered to the authorities. It seems the NBI caught up with them on Friday, April 25 in Dolores, Eastern Samar but they managed to run away. They were finally nabbed by the NBI on Saturday at 11:15 a.m.

Lee explained that they only ran because they thought the men that were after them were members of the New People’s Army.

Lee and Raz were able to hide for almost three weeks in the beach house in Dolores, Eastern Samar before an informant pointed them out to the NBI.

They will stay at the NBI facility until the Taguig Regional Trial Court determines where they will be detained.

Flappy48 is the Latest Addictive Game!

April 24, 2014
It looks like Flappy Bird is not coming back any time soon but no worries because a new imitation of the addictive game is here! The new game is called Flappy48. It has almost the same mechanics as Flappy Bird with all the obstacles and stuff. A major difference though is you have to slide the tiles on a board so as to come up with the number 2048.

This imitation of Flappy Bird is created by Dan Moran who is a computer science major at Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada. And according to this guy making the game took him less than one day to make.

Forming 2048 is not easy but then again the process of forming it is quite addictive. In fact, a lot of members in the Reddit community have gotten hooked on Flappy48.

Flappy48 can be played on a web browser as long as there’s in the Unity plugin.

Are you ready to try it out?

April 24, 2014
It’s been only a little more than a week since Kris Aquino confirmed that she and actor-turned-politician Herbert Bautista are dating. But now, reports say that it’s over for the two.

A source close to Bautista revealed that the politician had to stop pursuing Aquino because of his children. Apparently, his two children with ex-partner Tates Gana were hurt by the news of his budding romance with Aquino. The two children are Athena, 17, and Harvey, 10. Bautista has two other children from a previous relationship.

When news about his romance with Aquino spread, there were also rumors that Bautista was planning to use her in his political ambitions but he quickly squashed those rumors. Bautista made it clear that she had nothing to do with the problem their relationship came across.

On Monday Aquino surprised everyone with her very short hair and said that the reason for it was heartache.

However, on Wednesday she gave a hint on the state of their relationship through an Instagram post. She posted a photo of the energy drinks he sent as a gift after she was hospitalized due to heat exhaustion. The photo was captioned, “We’re not a ‘couple’ but we are the best of friends. And in this uncertain world, we’re sure to be friends for life.”

Suspect in Vhong Navarro Attack Escapes

April 22, 2014
The Bureau of Immigration has confirmed that one of the accused in the mauling of Vhong Navarro has managed to fly out of the country. The immigration identified the person as Jose Paolo Gregorio Calma, who is among those charged with grave coercion at the Taguig Municipal Trial Court. Calma is one of the guys who allegedly attacked Navarro last January 22, 2014.

Based on immigration records he flew out to Singapore last April 10, 2014.

It’s been two weeks since his flight but Department of Justice Secretary Leila de Lima only learned of it last April 21.

Sec. de Lima questioned the Bureau Immigration how Calma managed to fly when there was a warrant out for him, the Bureau said that the name in the passport was Jose Paolo Calma while the name in the lookout bulletin order was John Paul Calma.

US No Visa Policy for Filipinos is Not True

April 22, 2014
Lots of Filipinos were delighted when several Asian countries declared a no visa policy in order to travel but more were ecstatic when news that US has supposedly waived the visa requirement for Filipinos as well. This rumor spread so fast and many thought it was true. However, the Philippine embassy in Washington D.C. posted a statement on its website on Wednesday denying any truth to such news.

A portion of the statement says, “The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines would like to inform the public that there is no truth to what appears to be an online news report that the United States has announced a ‘no visa’ policy for Filipinos. The Embassy has been in touch with the US Department of State, which has denied making such an announcement.”

Apparently, the article was only a satire and not for real. The article was published by Adobo Chronicles, a website that has specializes in satirical writing.

According to the Adobo Chronicles’ article, waiving of the visa policy is a result of making the U.S. look really in a survey done by the Pew Research Center in Washington D.C. for the 2013 Global Attitudes Project. The survey question that Filipinos were asked was “Do you have a favorable or unfavorable view of the US?” Philippines got 85%, the highest score.

So, the no visa policy in the U.S. is not true. Filipinos who want to go there still have to go through the meticulous visa application and screening.

Before believing any news, better check the reliability of the sources first. Take note, Adobo Chronicles’s articles are simply for your entertainment.

Willie Revillame TV Comeback Happening Soon?

April 21, 2014
There are stories circulating that actor-TV host Willie Revillame will soon be back to hosting a TV show. Apparently, executives of a certain network are having talks about Revillame’s TV comeback. These execiutives agree to take him back because he’s what advertisers want and because e of this his return on television could happen sooner. Though this is but a rumor Revillame’s fans are delighted and excited. It’s only been six months since his TV show in another network was axed but to his fans that’s too long.  However, even Revillame himself is not aware of such talks. In his interview with Christy Fermin, Revillame said that he’s thankful if that certain network is preparing his TV comeback but if there’s none it’s alright since the timing’s probably not right yet.

He said that he’s happy because Filipinos in other countries prefer his show. Some of the Filipinos abroad have expressed their impatince and kept asking when he’s going back on TV, questions he cannot answer since there’s nothing definite in that area yet.

Even now there’s no denying the fact that Revillame’s appeal to the masses is still strong. He just needs to be with the right network to be on top again.

Accused in Vhong Navarro Case to Become State Witness

April 21, 2014
There’s a new twist in the Vhong Navarro veruss Cedric Lee and company drama. It seems Cedric Lee never thought one of his partners in the mauling of Navarro last January 22 would turn against him when the going gets tough.

According to respected broadcast journalist Tony Calvento a man connected to the incident reached out to him and gave a testimony on how Cedric Lee and his group planned to set up Navarro. But before calvento went to meet with this man, he asked Justice Secretary Leila De Lima’s permission and she gave the go signal.
During the meet up, details about the time, the location and the place where they had dinner were disclosed by this person. Apparently, this man kept on crying and asked Calvento to give him protection. Cedric Lee has lots of connections and this man knows this hence, he’s scared but Calvento assured him that De Lima can assign NBI agents to guard him.

The person that Calvento talked with also revealed the identity of the man shown in the CCTV footage who was holding the duct tape and went with Zimmer Raz and Bernice Lee. This person also told the journalist that one of the accused who was able to get out of the country is willing to come back and testify against Cedric Lee and his other companions.

Calvento knew the person could change his statement but he reminded him that everything he disclosed has been conveyed to Sec. De Lima. Either way, if he runs the NBI and PNP will be on his tail or those he’s turned the tables on will go after him.

When everything else turns to gray
Yours is the voice that wakes me mornings
And sends me out into the day
You are the crowd that sits quiet listening to me

You are one of the few things worth remembering
And since it's all true
How could anyone mean more to methan you?”

Deadly Mount Everest Avalanche Kills 12, 4 Missing

April 18, 2014
Twelve Nepali guides were killed when an avalanche swept down Mount Everest on Friday. According to Nepal’s tourism ministry 12 are dead and 4 are missing.

This avalanche is the first of this year’s climbing season. It swept down a slope near Camp 1 in Khumbu Icefall. Climbers were going up Mount Everest at around 6:30 a.m. that day and six sherpas went ahead to fix ropers and crack snow and ice to make a route. They were caught on the avalanche and died immediately. Aside from those six, more than 60 support staff and guides were also hit by the avalanche.
Twelve were found dead at the scene, four are missing and six are injured. Three of the injured were airlifted to Kathmandu and the rest are being treated at a medical center at the base camp.

The search for the 4 missing guides was called off on Friday night and will continue on Saturday.

Meanwhile, climbers who have reached the more advanced camps were left stranded. They cannot return to base camp until a new route is made, which could take a few days.

Due to this tragedy many of the expeditions will probably pack up and head home according to Scottish film maker Ed Wardle who witnessed the incident.

Hundreds Still Missing from Sunken South Korean Ferry

April 18, 2014
A ferry carrying 470 passengers capsized in the southwest coast of South Korea on Wednesday. Out of this number of passengers around 340 were students and teachers who were on their way to an outing in Jeju Island. In the latest reports, 28 people were found dead and 271 are still missing.
Rescue efforts went underway immediately on Wednesday. South Korean rescue teams as well as navy SEAL divers dashed to the scene to save the passengers.
The ferry named Sewol had a capacity of 921 so the reason for its sinking could not have been due to overloading.

Until now the cause of the accident is still inconclusive. Survivors recounted that they hear a very loud noise and then the boat started to tilt on one side.

The ship sent a distress signal at around 9:00 a.m. and sank two hours after. An aerial footage from the scene showed passengers scrambling out of the sinking ferry and into the life boats. Some of them even jumped to the icy cold water rather than get trapped in the boat.

A passenger said that when the boat started to turn on one side, people started to climb to the upper deck but it was difficult due to its slanting position. Many were injured by the sudden tilting of the boat another survivor revealed.

Rescue efforts are continuing but fears of the families of the passengers are mounting as the hours and days pass that they’re not found.

Meanwhile, Kang Min-gyu, the vice-principal of a South Korean school who managed to survive from the sinking boat has committed suicide. He was found hanging from a tree outside the gym where the relatives of the missing passengers are staying. He used his belt to hang himself. Min-gyu was among the school authorities who accompanied the hundreds of pupils to Jeju Island. Unfortunately, they never reached their destination.

The ship’s captain 69-year-old Lee Joon-seok was arrested early Saturday. New evidence shows that he was among the first people to flee the sinking ferry leaving behind hundreds of passengers to drown. He could be charged with negligence because according to investigators a junior officer was at the steering wheel and not Lee when the Sewol ferry started to sink. Arrest warrants are also out for the junior officer and a crew member for failure of duty.

Manny Pacquiao Regains WBO World Welterweight Title

April 17, 2014
Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao has proven once again that he still has the punch after regaining the WBO world welterweight title from Timothy Bradley during the bout on Sunday. This time around no one was left in doubt as to who was the better boxer as the judges gave a unanimous decision in favor of Pacquiao with the scores 118-110, 116-112, 116-112 much to the delight of the Pacquiao fans that watched the fight at the MGM’s Grand Garden Arena.  Bradley acknowledged his first defeat in the ring and said that Pacquiao was the better man in the ring. But Bradley’s trainer Joel Diaz said that his boxer pulled a calf muscle during the first round and they knew it was downhill from there. Credit must still be given to Bradley because he tried every opportunity to knockout Pacquiao but to no avail.

Pacquiao too tried for the knockout and although he hit Bradley hard several times, the boxer was still standing throughout the 12 rounds. Bradley was not the only one to suffer from injury during the fight. Pacquiao experienced leg cramps and also got a nasty cut on top of his left eye due to an unintentional head butt during the 11th round.

Aside from the WBO welterweight belt, Pacquiao will also be banking $20 million from the fight. With this victory, Pacquiao can now relax as they await the birth of his fifth child with wife Jinky.
