Heat is a major issue here in the Philippines and it is getting hotter and hotter each and every day. For people who have cars, traveling is not really an issue because most vehicles have fair air-conditioning. One thing they should be thinking of is when they leave their cars under the sun for a time. It is such a frustration to get inside a car that is scorching with heat and of course, it bugs everyone for a few minutes until it cools down. Here in the Philippines, the weather is unpredictable and therefore, you need a few tips and reminders on how you can cool your car as quickly as possible.
How to Cool down your hot car quickly

Why bother to cool down a hot car when in fact it can cool eventually? Well some people might have this question in mind and to tell you, I also asked this question but after knowing its effects, I then ignored the question.
  • HEAT STROKE. The number one reason why you should consider cooling down your car with wits.
  • If you have kids or pets, their health might be affected negatively because of the stored heat inside your car.
  • The heat can damage the things inside your car such as gadgets, shoes, clothes, even paper.
These are just some of the things that you might experience if you neglect the idea of cooling down your car before you actually hop into it. To avoid these, here are a few of the tips that we have gathered to help you with this dilemma.

Use a sunshade


Sunshades are the things that would be very beneficial in times like this; these are the foil-like structures that people place in their windshields and windows to protect the interior of your car to heat up. The foil-like structure lets the heat bounce back thus, failing to enter the car.

Ensure that your sunshade covers the whole of the windshield because that’s where most of the heat comes from.

The air-condition strategy


Some people just use the air-conditioning system to put the heat away but instead, latching unto that idea does not seem to hasten the process. You can use air-conditioning but you should have vents on your windows instead. Give it a 5-minute rest and from there, I can assure you that the heat is tolerable.

You can also turn the engine together with the air-conditioning on while the windows are down and start driving to let the wind outside blow through the interior of your car so that it cools down faster – A little sacrifice for the long-term benefit.

The little space technique


Some people are aware of the heat when they leave their cars in open spaces so what they do is they leave a slight space in their windows so that when it gets heated up, the heat can escape through the spaces in the windows. Just make sure that the space is not that noticeable to avoid robbery or even carnapping.

All-in-one


Not to state the obvious but you can do all of these things at once in order for you to have the assurance that your car won’t get heated up at the maximum level. You can have sunshades, do the air-conditioning strategy, and the window spaces techniques. Doing this can prevent your car to lock the heat inside your car and can even disallow the heat from staying inside. Be mindful of security because leaving your cars in open space with windows even slightly open is a risk.

Summer is far but as I’ve mentioned, the weather here in the Philippines is unpredictable so it will be better if we just stay prepared. And besides, when summer comes and you have an open-space parking, you won’t be confused and you won’t panic on what you should do to avoid locking the heat inside of your vehicle.

LTO to implement 5-year license validity

After all the talks and rumors about the Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) next move, this month is the month that the LTO finally calls the curtain about this. Early this year, there were sayings that the LTO plans on having a 5-year validity of the licenses and just a few days ago, it was officially released. A lot of things will change and these changes might or might not affect you but to shorten this and to get straight to the point, let us look deeper into this very good news.

Starting this October year 2016, new drivers and licenses will have a 5-year validity meaning, the ID’s or licenses they would have will be valid for a good five years. Hooray for the new order because it will be very much beneficial since we won’t be hustling to LTO offices every after three years. This change is per Administrative Order No. 2016-034 of the Land Transportation Office.

What if I already have a license; do I have to apply for a new one?


Existing licenses will have the same validity until it is renewed. For example, your license will be expired this coming March; it won’t extend 2 years but renewing it this coming March will let it enter the 5-year validity order. In line with this is of course increase in the payments for both new and renewal applications.

How much would the new application and renewal fee cost?


We are used to just paying somewhere around P350. 00 for our new license, right? If it’s done in the right way, of course but now, the new application for a driver’s license would be P585. 00 which is obviously somewhere around 50% higher than what we are used to pay. If we were to include the application fee and the computer fees, in estimation you would have to pay P820. 26 for that. Renewal then costs P652. 63 and that is of course not including the penalties, the cost of the medical examination, etc.

We have had the problems of “no stock of cards” in many LTO Offices and of course, the body anticipated for that to happen. If in any case replacement cards or the new cards are not available when you renew your license, the official receipt of renewal can be used as a means that a new card is on its way to you. This simply means that the old card is still valid until the time comes that new cards are available.

This time, the government is really making it up to us by giving us benefits that we have been wanting for a very long time; having driver’s licenses extend its validity for two years is already a lot and we cannot thank you enough for that. I just hope that this is the start of change in the Land Transportation Office’s side and we hope that more good changes come.

Number Coding Window Hours

Because of the ramping amount of cars we have in our country today, having all of those go in one single moment can cause not only traffic, but congestions and accidents as well. In the Metro, we have few simple ways of controlling the volume of cars that go on roads everyday but in this article, we are going to share the most common way of controlling that volume and that is the number coding. Yes, we are going to give you the window hours of cities in Metro Manila that you should take note of in order for you to be aware and not pay penalty fees for it.

Number Coding Window Hours

Just to be clear, there is a penalty if you drive during your number coding day. If your plate number ends on a specific number, you are not allowed to let the car out during the day when it is observed. The number coding is as follows:

  • 1 and 2 - Monday 
  • 3 and 4 - Tuesday
  • 5 and 6 - Wednesday
  • 7 and 8 - Thursday
  • 9 and 0 - Friday

The number coding is suspended on the weekends. During special and national holidays, suspension of the number coding is also strictly observed. Take note that the number coding might be stretched before or after the date of the holidays. The penalty for not abiding to this is Php300. 00 and that, to tell you is the minimum amount – that is to be paid at the redemption center in Makati (Orense Street).

Of course, people would not agree with this without any considerations or thoughts. The Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or also commonly known as the number coding scheme starts at 7:00pm – 7:00am. We would like to thank metromaniladirections.com for approving these exemptions from Director Virgel De Dios and the Office of the MMDA Chairman Inocentes:
  1. Marikina, Muntinlupa, and Taguig contains no number coding so drivers and other people can be carefree in driving around without the fear of getting stopped by authorities. But it is strictly enforced in National Roads like East Service Road, Manuel L. Quezon, C5, etc.
  2. The whole of Pasig City has window hours of 9:00am – 4:00pm.
  3. Makati and Las Pinas do not have window hours so that is the normal 7:00pm – 7:00am.
  4. Pasay City has number coding except on the following roads: Ninoy Aquino Avenue, MIA Road, Domestic Road, Portions of Airport Road, Sales Road, Tramo and some parts of Buendia.
  5. EDSA, C5, Pres. Diosdado Macapagal Avenue, Roxas Blvd (Pasay), all other National, City, and Municipal Roads have window hours regardless of the city (meaning one can drive via EDSA in Makati any day).
  6. For the rest of Metro Manila (Caloocan, Mandaluyong, Manila, Malabon, Navotas, parts of Pasay, Pateros, Quezon City, San Juan, and Valenzuela) number coding is in effect (window hours of 10am-3pm is also observed).
  7. The city of Parañaque implements the Number Coding Scheme, including the window hours (10:00am - 3:00pm), in the following roads:
  • San Antonio Avenue, Pres. Aguinaldo St., Dominique Savio St., Japan St., Michael Rua St., and -France St. in Barangay Don Bosco.
  • East Service Road from Dr. Santos Avenue up to FTI Parañaque area.
  • West Service Road from Dr. Santos Avenue up to Merville Park Subdivision Parañaque area.

Here are the updates of the window hours of the main cities in our country. Note that it changes from time to time so it’s best to contact the MMDA metrobase at 882-4151 – 77 local 213 and 255. Now you know the window hours of the number coding scheme, so it is best to follow rules and regulations in order to let yourself out of trouble

Few people travel during the times when people are scarce; the times when it is not office hours, when it is just dawn, or such times when people are still asleep or already asleep. Traveling during these hours can help you get to your destination faster because there are less volume of cars and less people in the streets.

Traveling at 5am is safe but traveling at 6am is already traffic. Until 11pm, traffic is heavy in EDSA and in some parts of Mandaluyong, Pasig, and Marcos highway. Traffic is really unpredictable but it is for certain that it is not yet existent earlier than 5am.
