How to Cool down your hot car quickly

October 18, 2016
Heat is a major issue here in the Philippines and it is getting hotter and hotter each and every day. For people who have cars, traveling is not really an issue because most vehicles have fair air-conditioning. One thing they should be thinking of is when they leave their cars under the sun for a time. It is such a frustration to get inside a car that is scorching with heat and of course, it bugs everyone for a few minutes until it cools down. Here in the Philippines, the weather is unpredictable and therefore, you need a few tips and reminders on how you can cool your car as quickly as possible.
How to Cool down your hot car quickly

Why bother to cool down a hot car when in fact it can cool eventually? Well some people might have this question in mind and to tell you, I also asked this question but after knowing its effects, I then ignored the question.
  • HEAT STROKE. The number one reason why you should consider cooling down your car with wits.
  • If you have kids or pets, their health might be affected negatively because of the stored heat inside your car.
  • The heat can damage the things inside your car such as gadgets, shoes, clothes, even paper.
These are just some of the things that you might experience if you neglect the idea of cooling down your car before you actually hop into it. To avoid these, here are a few of the tips that we have gathered to help you with this dilemma.

Use a sunshade

Sunshades are the things that would be very beneficial in times like this; these are the foil-like structures that people place in their windshields and windows to protect the interior of your car to heat up. The foil-like structure lets the heat bounce back thus, failing to enter the car.

Ensure that your sunshade covers the whole of the windshield because that’s where most of the heat comes from.

The air-condition strategy

Some people just use the air-conditioning system to put the heat away but instead, latching unto that idea does not seem to hasten the process. You can use air-conditioning but you should have vents on your windows instead. Give it a 5-minute rest and from there, I can assure you that the heat is tolerable.

You can also turn the engine together with the air-conditioning on while the windows are down and start driving to let the wind outside blow through the interior of your car so that it cools down faster – A little sacrifice for the long-term benefit.

The little space technique

Some people are aware of the heat when they leave their cars in open spaces so what they do is they leave a slight space in their windows so that when it gets heated up, the heat can escape through the spaces in the windows. Just make sure that the space is not that noticeable to avoid robbery or even carnapping.

Not to state the obvious but you can do all of these things at once in order for you to have the assurance that your car won’t get heated up at the maximum level. You can have sunshades, do the air-conditioning strategy, and the window spaces techniques. Doing this can prevent your car to lock the heat inside your car and can even disallow the heat from staying inside. Be mindful of security because leaving your cars in open space with windows even slightly open is a risk.

Summer is far but as I’ve mentioned, the weather here in the Philippines is unpredictable so it will be better if we just stay prepared. And besides, when summer comes and you have an open-space parking, you won’t be confused and you won’t panic on what you should do to avoid locking the heat inside of your vehicle.

LTO to implement 5-year license validity

October 16, 2016
After all the talks and rumors about the Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) next move, this month is the month that the LTO finally calls the curtain about this. Early this year, there were sayings that the LTO plans on having a 5-year validity of the licenses and just a few days ago, it was officially released. A lot of things will change and these changes might or might not affect you but to shorten this and to get straight to the point, let us look deeper into this very good news.

Starting this October year 2016, new drivers and licenses will have a 5-year validity meaning, the ID’s or licenses they would have will be valid for a good five years. Hooray for the new order because it will be very much beneficial since we won’t be hustling to LTO offices every after three years. This change is per Administrative Order No. 2016-034 of the Land Transportation Office.

What if I already have a license; do I have to apply for a new one?

Existing licenses will have the same validity until it is renewed. For example, your license will be expired this coming March; it won’t extend 2 years but renewing it this coming March will let it enter the 5-year validity order. In line with this is of course increase in the payments for both new and renewal applications.

How much would the new application and renewal fee cost?

We are used to just paying somewhere around P350. 00 for our new license, right? If it’s done in the right way, of course but now, the new application for a driver’s license would be P585. 00 which is obviously somewhere around 50% higher than what we are used to pay. If we were to include the application fee and the computer fees, in estimation you would have to pay P820. 26 for that. Renewal then costs P652. 63 and that is of course not including the penalties, the cost of the medical examination, etc.

We have had the problems of “no stock of cards” in many LTO Offices and of course, the body anticipated for that to happen. If in any case replacement cards or the new cards are not available when you renew your license, the official receipt of renewal can be used as a means that a new card is on its way to you. This simply means that the old card is still valid until the time comes that new cards are available.

This time, the government is really making it up to us by giving us benefits that we have been wanting for a very long time; having driver’s licenses extend its validity for two years is already a lot and we cannot thank you enough for that. I just hope that this is the start of change in the Land Transportation Office’s side and we hope that more good changes come.

Number Coding Window Hours

October 13, 2016
Because of the ramping amount of cars we have in our country today, having all of those go in one single moment can cause not only traffic, but congestions and accidents as well. In the Metro, we have few simple ways of controlling the volume of cars that go on roads everyday but in this article, we are going to share the most common way of controlling that volume and that is the number coding. Yes, we are going to give you the window hours of cities in Metro Manila that you should take note of in order for you to be aware and not pay penalty fees for it.

Number Coding Window Hours

Just to be clear, there is a penalty if you drive during your number coding day. If your plate number ends on a specific number, you are not allowed to let the car out during the day when it is observed. The number coding is as follows:

  • 1 and 2 - Monday
  • 3 and 4 - Tuesday
  • 5 and 6 - Wednesday
  • 7 and 8 - Thursday
  • 9 and 0 - Friday

The number coding is suspended on the weekends. During special and national holidays, suspension of the number coding is also strictly observed. Take note that the number coding might be stretched before or after the date of the holidays. The penalty for not abiding to this is Php300. 00 and that, to tell you is the minimum amount – that is to be paid at the redemption center in Makati (Orense Street).

Of course, people would not agree with this without any considerations or thoughts. The Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or also commonly known as the number coding scheme starts at 7:00pm – 7:00am. We would like to thank for approving these exemptions from Director Virgel De Dios and the Office of the MMDA Chairman Inocentes:
  1. Marikina, Muntinlupa, and Taguig contains no number coding so drivers and other people can be carefree in driving around without the fear of getting stopped by authorities. But it is strictly enforced in National Roads like East Service Road, Manuel L. Quezon, C5, etc.
  2. The whole of Pasig City has window hours of 9:00am – 4:00pm.
  3. Makati and Las Pinas do not have window hours so that is the normal 7:00pm – 7:00am.
  4. Pasay City has number coding except on the following roads: Ninoy Aquino Avenue, MIA Road, Domestic Road, Portions of Airport Road, Sales Road, Tramo and some parts of Buendia.
  5. EDSA, C5, Pres. Diosdado Macapagal Avenue, Roxas Blvd (Pasay), all other National, City, and Municipal Roads have window hours regardless of the city (meaning one can drive via EDSA in Makati any day).
  6. For the rest of Metro Manila (Caloocan, Mandaluyong, Manila, Malabon, Navotas, parts of Pasay, Pateros, Quezon City, San Juan, and Valenzuela) number coding is in effect (window hours of 10am-3pm is also observed).
  7. The city of Parañaque implements the Number Coding Scheme, including the window hours (10:00am - 3:00pm), in the following roads:
  • San Antonio Avenue, Pres. Aguinaldo St., Dominique Savio St., Japan St., Michael Rua St., and -France St. in Barangay Don Bosco.
  • East Service Road from Dr. Santos Avenue up to FTI Parañaque area.
  • West Service Road from Dr. Santos Avenue up to Merville Park Subdivision Parañaque area.

Here are the updates of the window hours of the main cities in our country. Note that it changes from time to time so it’s best to contact the MMDA metrobase at 882-4151 – 77 local 213 and 255. Now you know the window hours of the number coding scheme, so it is best to follow rules and regulations in order to let yourself out of trouble

Beating the Modern Manila Traffic

October 13, 2016
If you have been living and working in the cities, you most likely had a taste of the Manila traffic. You also then would know what time this traffic comes into play. To cut things short, almost everyone who travels in the Metro are aware of this and just accepted the fact that the traffic is a natural phenomenon. Many leaders planned on dissolving this by coming up with ideas but none ever became successful. People devised a few ways on how you can break from stress when you are under the MNL traffic and here are a few of those.

Beating the Modern Manila Traffic

The magic of Waze

Recently, an app had been introduced to us to help us get from one point to another in the fastest ways possible. This application is called Waze and many people have been using it. Uber drivers, Grab drivers, even normal citizens use this in order to beat the traffic and to get to their destinations in the best and fastest ways possible.

You need to first download the free app on your Play Store or Apple Store and from there, you can start using it.

Being a nightcrawler

Few people travel during the times when people are scarce; the times when it is not office hours, when it is just dawn, or such times when people are still asleep or already asleep. Traveling during these hours can help you get to your destination faster because there are less volume of cars and less people in the streets.

Traveling at 5am is safe but traveling at 6am is already traffic. Until 11pm, traffic is heavy in EDSA and in some parts of Mandaluyong, Pasig, and Marcos highway. Traffic is really unpredictable but it is for certain that it is not yet existent earlier than 5am.

Commuting is actually a goodie

Driving with the awareness that traffic might consume you is a bit bummer. Many people consider and choose commuting over driving because when they commute, they can do other things that can entertain them that would not be appropriate when driving. These things are:

  • Chat with friends and relatives
  • Browse the internet
  • Sleep

These three are the main things you can do if you are commuting and hell you cannot do these things while you are driving. Another thing is that if you commute, you can save tons of amounts for gas and it can let you rest while you are in the passenger area.

Kill time before traveling

If you attend work and you have a schedule that touches office hours, then you probably think and think of going into war because of the traffic. Find activities you can do before heading home like sitting and having a coffee for an hour or two, going to the mall, eating with office mates, friends, or relatives, and other activities that can kill time.

Traveling is not an easy task; it is not also a difficult one if you know how to. Know the ins and outs of the Metro and how you can get to your destination by sacrificing, and thinking smart. The traffic is very unpredictable especially now. It is up to you how you handle and avoid the general Metro Manila traffic.

18 Facts about the Human Brain

October 09, 2016
Our brains are so powerful that they control the totality of our bodies and take note, it is just a single structure placed in one area of our bodies – our head. It is so powerful that it is the one responsible for the things we feel, the things we think about, our satisfactions, our senses, and all other things. Dubbed as the central processing unit of the human body, the brain is an amazing and wonderful part of being a human. There are certain things that most of you do not know about it and in this article, I will be sharing 18 of those to you and I can surely tell you that it will definitely blow your mind.

18 Facts about the Human Brain

1. If you think that the brain is just another organ, think again. The brain uses a total of 20% of all the oxygen and blood inside your body.

2. Thinking about its composition, you would think that this organ is spongy, right? Well part of it is correct because according to researchers, the human brain has the same consistency as tofu.

3. When we’re awake, the average human brain creates produces enough electricity to power a small light bulb.

4. The human brain can live for 4-6 minutes without oxygen; it then begins to die. Not being able to have oxygen for 5-10 minutes may result to permanent brain damage.

5. Our brain is a small laboratory for it produces more than 100, 000 chemical reactions every second. Isn’t that mind-blowing?

6. Human brains weigh about 3 lbs and no, it is not the largest brain. That title goes to sperm whales having 17 lbs of brains.

7. Unlike artificial intelligence, our brains do not have a limit to store memory – no it is not like the RAM of our computers. It is considered to have unlimited capacity.

8. Taste receptors which distinguish taste are not only found in tongues. Other areas include: stomach, lungs, intestines, pancreas, anus, and yes, the brain.

9. Want to be relaxed? Try sniffing a bar of chocolate because even the smell of it triggers theta brain waves which make us relaxed and comfortable.

10. Ever got drunk? Well many believe that alcohol makes you forget everything but no. When we get drunk, it is just that the brain temporarily loses the ability to create memories which cause us not to remember what we did last night…

11. When we learn something new, added brain connectors are not the only thing that happens – it also changes our brain structure.

12. Music is equivalent to sex and eating – for the brain at least. It triggers activity in the same brain structure that releases dopamine (sex and food).

13. Due to many released news of brain parasites, scientists now believe that the chances of a zombie apocalypse is now possible.

14. Like being in control? Sorry to say this but 95% of your decisions take place in the subconscious part of our minds.

15. The human brain is composed of over 100 billion neurons and a trillion glial cells.

16. In a day, the average person creates about 70, 000 thoughts. Who knows, maybe one of those is a million-dollar idea.

17. Even if it has billions of neurons, the actual brain cannot really feel pain because it has been proven that it does not contain pain receptors.

18. Laughing is actually a tedious task for the brain because just the simple act of laughing requires five different areas of the brain to work together.

The human brain is not just an organ because as you can see, it is what made this all up. Without it, nothing would be possible. Did you even think that the human brain is actually the one who called itself the brain? Didn’t that make your brain function?

8 Major Effects of Stress to your Body

October 09, 2016
It is inevitable; everyone gets it even the happiest and the most carefree people on earth can get this sometimes – stress. It is part of growing up because you learn how to think, you learn how to think of problems, you learn to find solutions and so on. A lot of us think that stress only hinders people from sleeping but in fact, there is a deeper and a lot more meaningful thought than just that. Stress can cause effects to our body that we most definitely would not like and in this article, we will be stating 8 major effects of stress on a person’s body.

8 Major Effects of Stress to your Body

It stimulates the immune system

Hearing it sounds not so bad, isn’t it? Technically, it is good for short-term but if you will look at it in a longer span of time, it is not really that great. Good for short term because it would help you heal wounds faster, it will help you get rid of infections but over time, it takes over the immune system making you more vulnerable to viral illnesses like fever, influenza, and the common cold.

The Digestive System

Under stress, your liver produces an ample extra amount of blood sugar to aid you have a short boost of energy and unused blood sugar is then reabsorbed by the body. This one’s good if you are active and if you can direct stress to physical activities but being under chronic or extreme stress, your body might not be able to cope with the blood sugar produced by the liver causing you to be susceptible to type 2 diabetes. Aside from this, stress can divert the direction of food inside your body which can cause vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, or constipation.

Muscle Pain

Yes, your muscular system is also affected when you’re under stress. You may notice that after being drowned in a lot of work, your muscles will release once you have relaxed or taken off. Being under constant stress can make muscles busy all the time and be tensed; not just in your torso but in your head as well. Causing headaches, backaches, stomachaches, and other “common” muscle pains you encounter. You may have had an experience before where you felt working out after being under extreme pressure and stress.

Your Respiratory Tract

Have you ever experienced breathing faster because you are stressing out on something? Well that act is true especially when you are under extreme stress. You tend to breathe faster in order for oxygen to be supplied faster to your body because it is a natural response of your body when under stress. If you have existing respiratory problems like asthma or emphysema, you will feel that it is difficult to breathe.

The Heart

Being stressed is also one of the main reasons why people have higher blood pressure. If you are stressed, tendency is your heart will pump faster in order to supply blood and oxygen throughout your body fast. Being under stress constantly can make your heart tired and you have higher risk of hypertension and/or problems with your arteries and your heart.

The Menstrual Cycle

Is have their menstruations late, early, even longer than before. I’ve had friends who experienced a total of 13 days bleeding because she is under pressure, stress, and emotional outburst. Ladies can have no menstrual cycle for months if they are under chronic stress or if they do have, they might experience painful periods and heavier flow of blood.

The Reproductive Sector

In both men and women, stress can be correlated to being infertile. Being under a lot of stress can make a man’s testosterone’s level to drop meaning – less sperm production = lesser chance of succeeding with a baby. Serious chronic stress can make a man be infertile.

Probably one of the most impactful effects on the human body is caused by depression through stress. We all know how real depression is and depression can be quoted to be the root cause of all of this. Not being able to eat, not being able to exercise, sleep, drink water, can all be causes of why these symptoms or these effects happen. One way or another, stress is not something you can just play with because eventually it can lead to serious and chronic depression.

Stress is not something that you should ever disregard because it is a serious thing. It is all processed in our brains and our brains are considered to be the center of our body, right? Imagine that center being bombarded with negativity, doubt, hatred, anger, greed, and all things ALL AT THE SAME TIME – how do you think your body would react? Beat stress by being positive; beat stress by eating right, sleeping tight, and thinking bright.
