Some employers still gaze at fresh graduates’ alma mater in preferring who to hire, and the majority of them favouring those from top colleges and universities. However, they are also paying attention to graduates from other schools most especially if they found out that this graduate is quite deserving.
According to the latest Fresh Graduates 2017 Report of JobStreet Philippines, nearly most Fresh graduates from the University of the Philippines (UP) System were the top new hires in 2016.
The highest paid jobs are fresh graduates working in law, healthcare-related industries, journalism, IT-related jobs and Education.
JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip A. Gioca said in a small talk in Taguig City that the University of the Philippines System (UP) reclaimed the top spot from third place previously. He presented the report to the press on Wednesday, March 15. This is according on employers’ insight of who among the fresh graduate hires were the top performers.
Previous year’s top-rank Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) was now second rank and Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) was on third.
Gioca continued, “More than any time in recent history, the changes in attitude and preferences in employment have become rapid and constant.
“Job seekers should equip themselves with further knowledge should they want a distinct advantage in this highly competitive field,” he added.
Gioca said employers considered attitude, field of study and salary in hiring fresh graduates.
Multinational companies get graduates who went through a management training or internship program. And there are also industries who don’t even look on the school where they graduated as long as they are qualified on this certain job being offered.

Does it really matter where you graduate? What really matters most is the behavioural skills of the applicant, their willingness to learn in everything. They must have the initiative to do the right thing and most importantly is to show sincerity and integrity not only on their chosen field but also on their co-workers
