Security assurance awaits partner riders of Angkas, as the motorcycle taxi and delivery service has signed an agreement with the Social Security System (SSS) regarding the matter.
The partnership tackles the entitlement of 30,000 Angkas partner riders to social security protection from the SSS.
This initiative shall allow Angkas partner riders with SSS membership gaining access to different benefits from SSS.
These benefits available for Angkas partner riders shall include but not limited to sickness, maternity, disability, and retirement.
The scheme initiated by Angkas was lauded by SSS, praising the company for securing and considering their riders future.
SSS added that Angkas partner riders profession poses high risk of danger, whereas, providing them with solid protection from SSS will assure them the social security protection that they need and deserve.
The Angkas-SSS collaboration bears the tagline “AngkaSSS na sa Protektadong Bukas,” reflecting the SSS’ objective in providing social security coverage and old-age pension to all working Filipinos.
Under the agreement, Angkas partner riders will be classified as self-employed SSS members.
It was also mentioned that the agreement also entitled Angkas partner riders for SSS loan programs which include salary and calamity, giving them financial assistance for their immediate needs.
Moreover, Angkas partner riders will get additional coverage from the Employees’ Compensation (EC) Program for work-related sickness, disability or death.
The Angkas shall be responsible and serve as an authorized Coverage and Collection Partner of SSS.
Therefore, Angkas has the right to collect the monthly contributions of its active partner bikers and remit it to the SSS.
Currently, SSS contribution rate is at 14%. Meanwhile, the monthly salary credit (MSC) utilized to distinguish the amount of monthly contribution stands from P4,000 to P30,000 for self-employed members.
The lowest monthly contribution is pegged at P570, comprised of P560 for the regular SSS contribution and P10 for the EC contribution.
On the separate matter, the highest monthly contribution is P4,230, comprised of P2,800 for the regular SSS contribution, P30 for the EC contribution, and P1,400 for the mandatory MySSS Pension Booster.
Meaning, Angkas partner riders who earn P13,000 monthly will have a combined SSS and EC monthly contribution payment of P1,830.
Angkas partner riders earning P20,250 and above will also contribute to the mandatory MySSS Pension Booster, which ranges from P70 to P1,400 monthly in addition to the SSS and EC contributions.
If the Angkas partner riders are getting P23,750 monthly, they will be contributing P2,800 for the regular SSS contribution, P30 for the EC contributions, and P560 for the mandatory MySSS Pension Booster monthly.
SSS encourages other ride-sharing and food delivery platform companies to provide the same Angkas’ initiative and take the necessary steps to make their partner riders and drivers SSS members.
